Dick’s Sporting Goods using a whole new economic model for “assault weapons” — buy them at wholesale then destroy them at retail

Executives at outdoor and sports retailer Dick’s Sporting Goods seem to be doing all they can to alienate a larger portion of their customer base.

You may recall that the company announced in February shortly after the Parkland, Fla., school shooting that it would stop selling “assault-style rifles” at all of its retail locations including its partner stores, Field & Stream. In the weeks after that announcement, NewsTarget reported, the company experienced deeper-than-expected declines in sales. In an interview, CEO Edward Stack saw at least some of that decline coming because he told CNN that embracing a Left-wing stance on gun control would result in “people who don’t shop us anymore for anything.” He added that limiting gun sales is “not going to be positive from a traffic standpoint and a sales standpoint.”

Which makes what the company is doing next even more puzzling.

As reported by The Daily Wire, which cited the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Dick’s has decided not to sell (to another chain) or return the rifles it currently has in stock, but will instead destroy them.

Yes, you read that right. Destroy them.

As The Daily Wire noted:

Typically, retailers who pull goods from their shelves return those goods to the manufacturer so they can be redistributed and sold at other stores. But Dick’s will instead destroy the rifles at its distributions sites and then send what’s left to a salvage yard. No one will ever own any of the so-called “assault-style rifles” once sold at Dick’s, and its partner store, Field & Stream.

“We are in the process of destroying all firearms and accessories that are no longer for sale as a result of our February 28th policy change,” a company spokeswoman told the Pittsburgh paper. “We are destroying firearms in accordance with federal guidelines and regulations.”

Well, that’s good. We wouldn’t want Dick’s destroying guns in a way that wasn’t legal.

You may want to consider calling your investment firm and having them pull any stock you own out of Dick’s. In addition to this ridiculous, money-losing stunt, the company is also facing several lawsuits over its new restrictions, which include preventing anyone under the age of 21 from buying rifles (the federal legal age is 18).

The thing to keep in mind here — and one thing Stack and the other brainiacs running Dick’s — is that the bulk of consumers the company is trying to appease already don’t shop at the retailer, at least for a broad spectrum of products related to hunting, fishing, and shooting.

The Alt-Left doesn’t really hunt much. They don’t condone the killing of animals (even for consumption, which is the purpose behind the vast majority of hunting in America). They aren’t fishermen (fisherpeople?). And many won’t pay the exorbitant prices for running pants, soccer balls, ball gloves, and golf gear Dick’s charges.

So these kinds of actions are doing nothing to attract new customers.

But they will continue running off existing customers who are fed up with being insulted for their political and constitutional beliefs and made to feel like criminals. Every customer and potential customer targeted by these punitive measures are, in essence, being blamed for the Parkland shooting and every other school shooting that has occurred before it.

Even though they’ve done nothing wrong.

Prediction: Dick’s, with these idiotic, politically motivated measures, will continue to alienate a larger portion of the American consumer pool, thus the company will continue to lose market share and money.

Why people like Stack continue to believe the lie that Left-wingers are the majority of the country is beyond comprehension, especially given the readily observable evidence to the contrary. We wouldn’t have a Republican congressional majority or Donald J. Trump running on an America-first, conservative agenda in the White House if they were right.
